Electric pickup trucks are really hot these days, especially those in the lightweight segment. Last week, I test-drove the latest Light EV Pickup Truck. Honestly, when I first saw its compact size, I was skeptical: Can this thing really do the job? But when I stepped on the accelerator, I was slapped in the face faster than the charging itself. Despite its small size, the instantaneous torque from the electric motor makes it much more powerful off the line than my gasoline pickup truck. While waiting at a red light, the gasoline truck next to me was still humming, and I'd already scrambled two or three spaces.
The range was a pleasant surprise. The official 200km range actually worked out to around 180km for city commuting and occasional light hauling. Charging is also easy; a regular household outlet can keep it charged overnight, which is much better than waiting in line at a gas station. The chassis tuning is quite interesting. It's as nimble as a sedan when unladen, yet surprisingly maintains excellent stability even when hauling hundreds of pounds of cargo. The crisp, snappy "bang" sound over speed bumps is nothing like the limp suspension of some electric vehicles.
What surprised me most was electric pickup trucks' intelligent features. The central control screen displays real-time load data, and there's a dedicated cargo securing mode that tightens the straps with a single click. There's even a power bank-sized emergency power bank hidden under the driver's seat, perfect for charging a phone in a pinch—a truly thoughtful touch. As for the downside, wind noise is noticeable above 100 kilometers on the highway, but considering its primary urban transport application, this isn't a major issue.
